Snow Plowing

The Village of Poplar Grove is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.  Snowplowing can be one of the most stressful times of year, as we have to answer many questions from our residents. Please read our information below and be courteous and understanding when it comes to snow removal in your neighborhood.

Order of Plowing

Why is my street the last to be plowed?  No two snow events are the same. We do our best to keep the roads clear and safe.  It is inevitable one road will be first and one will be last.  Please be patient as the Village has (8) square miles of roadway to clear.

Mailboxes

There are many reasons your mailbox could be in jeopardy. We do our best to clean the roads back to the curb line to aid in US Mail delivery.  However, we are unable to get clean close curb cut in the area of a mail box.  You are responsible for cleaning up the area of your mail box for the postal service delivery.

Snow can fly off the plow blade and hit a mail box.  The Village is not responsible for replacement of a mailbox other than when our blade has mistakenly hit the box.

You can take preventative measures and check your mailbox the late fall to be sure the post is not defective, or that you have a protection barrier from flying snow.

If the Village hits a mailbox with a plow blade, we will take responsibility.

Any questions regarding damage should be reported to the Village Hall and a supervisor will investigate the claim.

Driveways

Keeping the roadway clear is our main concern.  There are not many options for snow that is deposited on the road and it will fall into the easy access point of a driveway.  We do the best we can.

Often residents request the Village to come back out and plow their driveway after our trucks have plowed and deposited snow at the end of their driveway.  We are unable to control where the snow deposits when trying to clean up the roadways.  This is unfortunately something that will happen.

Cul-de-sacs

The Village has an easement of 33’ from the center of the roadway.  We will do our best to clean a cul-de-sac area, however they are a difficult maneuver for a large truck.

It is inevitable snow will be piled up along the circle in order for us to safely clean the roadway.

We are unable to make special trips to clean out snow from your yard.  We will do our best to keep the roadway clear.

Objects in Right of Way

If you have decorations or landscaping in the right of way, the Village is not liable for destruction from a snow plow or piles of snow.  The easement in a normal roadway is 33’ from the center of the road.  We do our best to keep roads clean and safe.

Parked Vehicles

Parked Vehicles are difficult issues for plow trucks.

Not only are we unable to move the plows down the roadway, but it is inevitable we will plow them in.  We will not make special trips to clear roadways when vehicles are parked along the roads.

The Village has an ordinance which regulates there will be no parking on streets when we have 2” of snow.  Residents risk fines and towing of vehicles for leaving them in the roadway.

Please remember these issues and be courteous of your snow plow driver.  Remember, we call them out when conditions are too dangerous for others!

Manholes

The Village has countless neighborhoods that were left incomplete.  This means on many occasions there are exposed manholes that can be difficult to plow over or drive over.  We are aware of those and try to use locators to direct residents around them.  Unfortunately this is not something the Village can control at this time.  We ask that you drive slow and be aware of your surroundings.  The Village is not liable for damage to your vehicle due to striking an object in the roadway.
